Description

This part of the program focuses on early cinema: 1895-1930. 2 film programs, each containing +/- 5 (short) films from the EYE collection (catalogue), built around specific themes, contextualizing the films: a. early screenings (film history); b. magic of film (film technics). The screening is accompanied by an instructor who guides the audience through the images shown on the screen and will conduct the quiz. This component has a ‘reflective’ approach, with limited ‘active’ film literacy through (digital) work sheets.

A girl named Alice and a couple of friends put on a performance, that gets disturbed by annoying neighbourhood kids. Her friends are afraid to perform with such an audience so Alice decides to tell an exciting story by herself. While she is telling her story, the film turns into an animation film with Alice as the main character.

The Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat Station

This 50-second silent film shows the entry of a train pulled by a steam locomotive into a train station in the French coastal town of La Ciotat. Like most of the early Lumière films, L'arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat consists of a single, unedited view illustrating an aspect of everyday life.

A trip to the moon

The possibility to reach the Moon with a space capsule in the shape of a bullet and a huge cannon to shoot it into space has been imagined by the cinema pioneer Georges Méliès. A dream come true for the audience too.
